Prospects for Quality Care for Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Our Association’s President, Mr. Yiangos Yiangou, participated in the Congress of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO), which was held in Copenhagen from 19–22 February 2014. The theme of the Congress was “Perspectives for Quality Care for Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.” As part of the Congress, a press conference was organised featuring patient representatives from the European Federation of Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis Associations (EFCCA) and gastroenterologists who are members of ECCO.

Patients shared their personal experiences and the challenges they face in their daily lives. The physicians delivered an encouraging message, noting that newer and more advanced treatments are expected to become available soon. At the same time, they highlighted the increasing number of new cases, particularly among adolescents and children. While the exact causes remain unknown, experts believe that factors related to the environment, diet, and modern lifestyle contribute to the development of these diseases.

Following the main press conference, the President of our Association joined representatives of the corresponding patient associations in Greece for a joint press briefing with Greek journalists.

Afterwards, an art exhibition organised by ECCO was officially opened, focusing on chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
