The Cyprus Crohn’s & Colitis Association (CYCCA) once again organized events in Nicosia and Limassol to mark World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day. The events were held under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Mr. George Pamboridis.
On Saturday, 7 May 2016, CYCCA’s event took place in Limassol. For the first time, the programme included workshops with a limited number of participants, allowing for more active patient involvement. The first workshop focused on patients who had undergone or were planning to undergo surgery, while the second workshop addressed psychological support for parents of children living with IBD.
The second event was held in the form of a conference in Nicosia on Saturday, 14 May 2016. The first speaker was Dr. Michalis Taliadoros (General Surgeon), who presented on surgery and the management of the transition period following an operation. He was followed by Ms. Anastasia Nicolaou (Specialist Nurse), who spoke about nursing care after a colostomy. Finally, a patient living with Crohn’s disease shared his personal experiences and discussed the challenges generally faced by people with chronic illnesses in Cyprus. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session and an extensive discussion between patients and speakers.
Below are some photographic highlights from the events. We have also included the presentations of our speakers, who kindly gave us permission to publish them.
