The Cyprus Association for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (PA.SY.E.K.K.), with the support of the International Federation of Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis Associations (IFCCA), presents a video campaign on the occasion of World IBD Day, observed on 19 May.
This year’s campaign message is:
“IBD has no borders. Living with IBD should not be determined by where a person lives.”
*Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD)
PA.SY.E.K.K. represents children and adults living with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), such as Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. These are chronic conditions that cause inflammation in the digestive system and significantly affect patients’ daily lives.
The most common symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss and anaemia, while in severe cases repeated surgical interventions may be required.
In Cyprus, it is estimated that more than 8,000 people, including children, are living with IBD.
Although there is no definitive cure, with appropriate medical monitoring and treatment, many patients can maintain a good quality of life.
The Board of Directors of PA.SY.E.K.K. highlights the need for continuous education, increased public awareness and meaningful support for patients, with the aim of creating a more informed, fair and inclusive society.
