Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean that it is not there A dream that began in November 2019 started becoming a reality on 3 December 2021, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Through the initiative of the Cyprus Association for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (CYCCA), our President approached Ms Thekla Georgiou, PRM & Customer Care Officer, to propose and explain the “Sunflower Lanyard” project. The Sunflower Lanyard, a green neck strap printed with sunflower symbols (as shown in the photos below), is already used in airports around the world. As a result of this initiative, the programme was introduced at Hermes Airports in Larnaca and Paphos on 3 December 2021. The Sunflower Lanyard service provides assistance to individuals living with an invisible disability. It serves as an important reminder that not all disabilities are visible. With the support of trained airport staff, travelling may become easier through the assistance and accommodations offered to those wearing the Sunflower Lanyard.
