There are no gastroenterology clinics in public hospitals, yet we are expected to be pioneers in introducing new therapies that are not scientifically proven, at least in relation to the treatment of conditions such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. The decision of the Pharmaceutical Services, as a consequence of the strict austerity measures imposed on the healthcare sector, to introduce biosimilar medicines has raised serious concerns among patients, who are calling on the Ministry of Health to approach healthcare issues with greater sensitivity.
