PRESS RELEASE 19 MAY WORLD IBD DAY DEDICATED TO ULCERATIVE COLITIS AND CROHN’S DISEASE Municipal Buildings in Nicosia, Strovolos and Limassol Illuminated in Purple Runners of the “Pericles Demetriou” Athletics Club Run for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease 19 May has been designated as World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day. This year, Cyprus is actively participating in the global awareness campaign by illuminating public buildings in purple, the colour symbolizing Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Through this initiative, we aim to make the invisible VISIBLE while advocating for a better quality of life for patients and their families. Supporting our efforts are the runners of the Pericles Demetriou Athletics Club, the Municipality of Nicosia, the Municipality of Limassol, and the Municipality of Strovolos. Their municipal buildings will be illuminated in purple on 19 May, joining iconic landmarks around the world such as Niagara Falls, The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Palace of the Parliament in Romania, Toronto’s famous CN Tower, and many others.
