The Cyprus Crohn’s and Colitis Association (CYCCA) organized a three-day series of events in Nicosia and Limassol to mark World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Day. The events were held under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Dr. Philippos Patsalis, and the Cyprus Gastroenterology Society.

On Saturday, 24 May 2014, CYCCA’s event in Nicosia took place at the KPMG Conference Hall. Below are some highlights from the event.

Introduction by the President of CYCCA at the conference:

The conference was addressed by Dr. Georgios Potamitis, President of the Cyprus Gastroenterology Society.

What is it like to stand beside a loved one living with IBD? During our previous event, we had the opportunity to hear the moving testimony of a mother whose personal story gave us the strength to continue our efforts to improve healthcare services and medical care in Cyprus.

Dr. Pavlos Antoniou, Gastroenterologist, presented the topic "IBD at the Threshold of the 21st Century: Challenges and Dilemmas in Therapeutic Management".

Dr. Vasilis Christodoulou, Clinical Psychologist and Body Psychotherapist, presented the topic "Patient or Sick Person?"

Finally, the Vice President of CYCCA, Mr. Yiannis Antoniadis, provided an overview of patients' rights and entitlements.
