Participation in the meetings of the House Health Committee

On Thursday, 10/11/2022, the Cyprus Crohn’s & Colitis Association (CYCCA) attended a session of the Parliamentary Health Committee. The Association was represented by its President, Vice President, and Administrative Officer.

The issues discussed were:
1. Amendment of the legislation that would come into effect on 01/01/2023 regarding the location where patients receive biological therapy infusions and the method of supply.
2. Inclusion of pharmaceutical products in the GHS (Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, iron, probiotics, etc.).
3. Therapeutic drug monitoring and antibody testing for patients receiving biological therapies – inclusion in the GHS.
4. Workplace issues, sick leave, leave required for patients to collect medication from public hospitals, and biological therapy infusions.
5. Establishment of a Gastroenterology Clinic (consultation room, endoscopy unit, physician’s office, infusion unit, Dietitian, Psychologist).

Note:
Following initiatives by CYCCA, from 03/12/2021 the Sunflower Lanyard programme for invisible disabilities has been operating at Larnaca and Paphos airports. The Association proposed that it should also be implemented in other services.
Those present listened to the concerns and challenges faced by patients with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee urged the stakeholders present (HIO, SHSO, Ministry of Health, GHS, CPF, etc.) to provide immediate solutions. The above issues, along with others, were discussed during the 35 minutes allocated to us by the Parliamentary Health Committee.

We are awaiting responses to our requests.

Together We Can, and we will continue to advocate and strive for change!
