Miles4Guts Charity Marathon - May 17, 2025
On Saturday, 17 May 2025, on the occasion of World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day – which includes Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease – the Miles4Guts Charity Marathon, covering a distance of 42 kilometres, took place. The initiative was organised by the Miles4 running team, with the aim of raising awareness, promoting understanding, and supporting people living with IBD. The marathon started at 16:00 from Athalassa Park (near Nicosia General Hospital) and concluded at 21:00 at Finikoudes Beach in Larnaca, at the Kimon Statue.

The runners – Andreas Mylonas, Marios Hasapis, and Nikos Kalogirou – are three young men currently serving in the National Guard, who dedicated their effort to supporting and empowering people living with IBD.

The route was broadcast live through the Miles4_ TikTok profile, allowing people from across Cyprus and abroad to participate virtually and support the initiative.

The Miles4 team collaborated with the Cyprus Association for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (CYCCA), aiming both to support the Association’s work financially and to raise public awareness about the conditions it represents. At the starting point, the Mayor of Latsia–Geri, Mr Christos Pittaras, and Ms Melia Charalambous, representing the Nursing Services of the Ministry of Health, were present. Throughout the marathon, the runners were accompanied by the Cyprus Civil Defence, while at the finish line the event was attended by Mr Louis Christodoulides, Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee of the Municipality of Larnaca, and Ms Maria Miltiadou, Acting Executive Director of the Cyprus Youth Organisation.

The President of CYCCA, Ms Natasa Theodosiou, and the Administrative Officer, Ms Athina Spanou, on behalf of the Board of Directors present at the event, warmly thanked the runners and their families for supporting this effort over many months. They emphasised the need for greater awareness and support for patients, expressing hope for a more informed and compassionate society.

It is estimated that more than 7,000 people in Cyprus, including many children, are living with IBD. CYCCA continues to work towards raising awareness, supporting patients, and advocating for their rights.

We would also like to thank our long-standing sponsor OPAP Cyprus for its support.
